Aim of the school and preliminary program
The School promotes deepening of biophysical topics selected in the area of contemporary research. The selected subjects will draw young researcher's attention on themes of frontier research which are considered of relevant scientific and educational impact. The School will be held in the magnificent Palazzo Loredan, in the historical centre of Venice, seat of the Istituto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti.
The School, in its nineth year of activity, will be on:
Photobiology and Environment
and will deal with the following topics:
Molecular and cellular targets in photobiology, Light-promoted processes at cellular level, Cellular response to solar UV- induced DNA damage, Effects of UV radiation on human health, Phototoxicity in the eye, Photochemistry of photo-toxic drugs, Photocatalysis for a clean environment, Photochemical decontamination of polluted water, Biophysical basis and environmental applications of fluorescence, Photoinhibition and photoprotection in photosynthesis, Photosynthesis under extreme environmental conditions, Photoorientation in microorganisms, Environmental UV action spectroscopy, Ecological role of solar UV, Perception of UV-B radiation in plants; Lasers and environment: Optical techniques for monitoring and characterization Light and cyrcadian rhythms.
